All four playoff teams have players with two Walter Cup rings which means at least one three-time champion will be crowned in 2026. Minnesota returns nine players from its back-to-back titles in captain Kendall Coyne Schofield, alternates Kelly Pannek and Lee Stecklein, defender Natalie Buchbinder, forwards Claire Butorac, Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle, and goaltenders Nicole Hensley and Maddie Rooney. With two goals and an assist in the second period of Minnesota's 5-3 Game Two victory over the Toronto Sceptres, Stecklein became the first player in PWHL history to collect three points in a playoff period while also becoming the first defender to collect three points in a playoff game. Stecklein's Minnesota teammates, Taylor Heise and Michela Cava, first achieved the three-point, single-game milestone during last season's Finals against Boston. In Game One of the series, Stecklein set up a score by Britta Curl-Salemme at 13:56 of the second period to start a Minnesota comeback bid that finished a goal short in Toronto's 3-2 triumph. She added a goal plus an assist in Sunday's 7-5 Game Three victory. Stecklein finished the week with 3-3--6 in the first three games of the series, tops among PWHL playoff scorers. After scoring just two goals in her first 62 career regular-season and playoff games, Stecklein enters Game 4 of the series Wednesday night on a five-game point streak (6-3--9) that dates to the regular season. She has matched her regular-season total for goals while doubling her playoff points output from last season (0-3--3 in 10 games). |

SAINT PAUL, MN (May 11, 2025) - The Minnesota Frost were on the winning side of a 7-5 victory in the highest scoring game in PWHL history to take a 2-1 series lead over the Toronto Sceptres on Sunday evening at Xcel Energy Center. Twenty-one different players found the scoresheet between the teams, including 11 multi-point producers. The Frost opened the game strong, scoring three goals in a five-minute span, with markers from Liz Schepers, Brooke McQuigge and Lee Stecklein, before the Sceptres recorded their first shot on goal. Daryl Watts responded to get the Sceptres on the board with five minutes left in the opening frame, ending the first period with a 3-1 score. Toronto pulled within one early in the second period on a goal from Maggie Connors, but the Frost answered with two more to extend their lead to 5-2. Toronto defender Kali Flanagan cut the deficit to two before the end of the second frame, making it 5-3 heading into the third. Anna Kjellbin's first PWHL goal brought Toronto back within one early in the final period, but Minnesota quickly countered with two goals in a two-minute span, both from Michela Cava, to widen the gap again. Toronto fought to stay in the game, as captain Blayre Turnbull scored with eight minutes remaining, but the deficit proved too large to overcome. Maddie Rooney earned a second straight win for the Frost, stopping 18 of 23 shots, with Kristen Campbell suffering a second straight loss, turning aside 17 of 24 shots for Toronto. |

Frost forward Michela Cava on having a chance at a hat trick: "Obviously it's a fun thing to be able to do but we made the game close again at the end and I think everyone was just focused on not letting any more goals in and cleaning up our defensive game. To me, that's way more important than getting a hat trick. I feel like it was a good way to end the game, not letting them get any more goals." |

OTTAWA, ON (April 30, 2025) - Minnesota needed a regulation win to stay alive in the PWHL playoff race and delivered a 3-0 shutout over Ottawa, backed by a 24-save performance by Nicole Hensley on Wednesday night at TD Place. The Frost are now just one point behind the fourth-place Charge with one game remaining in the regular season. The Charge entered the game with three straight regulation wins and needed just one point against the Frost to secure a playoff berth and were given every opportunity to capture it with a 30-save performance by Gwyneth Philips in goal. After a scoreless first period, Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield took a pass from Michela Cava from the side boards and fired a shot from the high slot that sailed past Charge defenders and through the legs of Philips. The goal, scored at 18:43 of the middle frame, came on Minnesota's 17th shot of the period - tying a season high - and held as the game-winner. Lee Stecklein added a pair of third period goals, the latter into an empty net. Dominique Petrie had assists on the game's first two goals. Both teams will play their final games of the regular season on the road Saturday with playoff berths on the line. Ottawa can secure the team's first trip to the postseason with a win over Toronto, while Minnesota needs another victory and can clinch with a regulation win over Boston - the team they defeated to capture last season's Walter Cup title. |

Campbell made 23 saves in a 4-1 victory at New York on Wednesday and followed that performance with 22 stops in a 2-1 triumph over the Frost at Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota - the Sceptres' first victory ever at Xcel. Sunday's victory was Campbell's fifth of the season and her third straight - her longest such run of the campaign. The 27-year-old from Brandon, Man., has permitted only one goal in each of those past three outings. The only goal she surrendered to Minnesota was scored by Michela Cava during a Frost power play. New York's Alex Carpenter was the only player to beat Campbell at even strength during the two games that helped Toronto run its overall winning streak to six. OTTAWA, ON (February 13, 2025) - In the highest scoring game in PWHL history, the Ottawa Charge soared to an 8-3 win over the Minnesota Frost at TD Place on Thursday night. Tereza Vanisova's hat trick and Gabbie Hughes' two-goal game were among the seven multi-point performances that propelled Ottawa to victory in front of an electric home crowd. During a back-and-forth first period, the Charge opened the scoring with two goals on their first two shots, first from Mannon McMahon and second from Hughes, who tallied her first of the season and Ottawa's first shorthanded 'jailbreak' goal of the campaign. Minnesota responded with two goals of their own from Britta Curl-Salemme and Michela Cava to even the score at the end of the opening period. During the second period, the Charge opened the floodgates by adding four goals to their tally - Hughes netted her second of the night, Vanisova added two of her own, and Victoria Bach notched one more - to put Ottawa up by four heading into the final frame. The Charge further extended their lead in the final period by adding two more goals, the first from captain Brianne Jenner on the power play, and the second from Vanisova for her third of the game. Minnesota managed to find the back of the net late in the game with a goal from Sophie Jaques, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit, as the Charge secured their first win in four games - and their first at TD Place since their home opener on Dec. 3 - to jump into a three-way tie for fourth place in the league with 20 points. Minnesota remains in second position with 26 points. |

Coyne Schofield notched another multi-point performance in the month with a goal and an assist at New York Jan. 15, when she scored a second-period goal to tie the score, then set up the goal by Mellissa Channell-Watkins that gave the Frost a temporary 2-1 lead. Coyne Schofield has four multiple-point outings so far this season, one more than she compiled in 2024. Her January production boosted Coyne Schofield's point total to 6-8--14 for the season, good for a three-way tie for the team lead with Heise (4-10--14) and Thompson (3-11-14) and second in the PWHL only to the 5-10--15 by New York's SarahFillier. |
