Oct. 26, 2016 Wideman had a power-play goal in Tuesday's victory at St. Louis. After sitting out three consecutive games as a healthy scratch, Wideman has bounced back with a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in three games since. The veteran defenseman has already matched the two-goal total he recorded in 51 games during a disappointing 2015-16 campaign.

Oct. 13, 2016 Wideman had a power-play goal in Wednesday's season-opening loss at Edmonton. A good start for the 33-year-old, who's trying to put behind a forgettable 2015-16 campaign in which he scored just twice in 51 games and missed considerable time when suspended for striking a linesman in January. Wideman was a fantasy asset in 2014-15, posting career highs of 15 goals and 41 assists in 80 games.
July 31, 2016 Twenty-year veteran NHL linesman Don Henderson underwent neck surgery to repair damage from being knocked to the ice by Wideman last January, and there are fears his career may be over, the Boston Globe reported Saturday. According to one of Henderson's friends in the officiating business, the recent surgery was aimed at repairing two ruptured disks in his neck, the result of the hit, per Kevin Paul Dupont's report in the Boston Globe. Wideman was suspended 20 games, but that was reduced to 10 games by a neutral arbitrator, although the defenseman had already sat out 19 games when the decision made following an appeal.
March 17, 2016 The Flames lost Wideman (upper body) in the first period Wednesday when he went down heavily after colliding with a teammate. It was his third game after returning from what was a 19-game suspension. Coach Bob Hartley said the team will know more in the next day or two, but based on preliminary indications from the medical staff, "it doesn't look very good."
March 12, 2016 The NFL Referees Association says it agrees with its NHL counterpart in objecting to the reduction of Wideman's suspension for knocking down a linesman. NFLRA executive director Jim Quirk said that any time an athlete makes unnecessary physical contact with an official, "there needs to be swift and certain punishment." An independent arbitrator reduced Wideman's suspension from 20 games to 10 after ruling that the Calgary Flames defenseman did not intend to injure linesman Don Henderson in Jan. 27 game. Quirk says arbitrator James Oldham's decision to reduce the suspension "sends a horrible message about sportsmanship."
Feb. 23, 2016 The National Hockey League Players' Association will appeal to an arbitrator for the suspended Wideman on Thursday and Friday. The NHLPA tweeted the announcement Tuesday night, and the appeal will be heard in New York by arbitrator James Oldham. The NHLPA requested the appeal after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman upheld Wideman's 20-game suspension last week for cross-checking a linesman on Jan. 27. The suspension is the second longest in NHL history for abusing an official.
