Oct. 6, 2016 Torres' stint in the Carolina Hurricanes' training camp is over. Carolina invited Torres to camp on a professional tryout, with general manager Ron Francis in August defending the decision as a low-risk move. Torres hasn't played a regular-season game in the NHL since 2013-14. He was suspended last October for 41 games - the longest suspension in NHL history for a hit on another player - and fined $440,000 for his illegal check on Anaheim's Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game.
Feb. 22, 2016 The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Roman Polak and forward Nick Spaling from the Toronto Maple Leafs for two second-round picks and Torres. Torres hasn't played this season because of suspension and injury. He also has an expiring contract.
Oct. 7, 2015 The San Jose Sharks have sent forward Raffi Torres on a conditioning assignment in the minors following the completion of his 41-game suspension. The Sharks added Torres to the active roster Wednesday and immediately assigned him to the Barracuda of the AHL. Torres was suspended for half the season for an illegal check to the head of Anaheim's Jakob Silfverberg in an exhibition game. It was the fifth suspension of Torres' career. Torres is also working his way back from a knee injury that sidelined him all of last season but coach Peter DeBoer said he believes Torres can contribute to the Sharks down the stretch.

This marks the fifth and most significant suspension for Torres in his career. His previous longest ban had been a 21-game suspension - initially 25 games - for a high hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa in the first round of the playoffs in 2012 when he played with Phoenix. The previous longest suspension for player-on-player violence was a 30-game suspension to Chris Simon of the New York Islanders in December 2007 for stomping on the skate of Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu.
Aug. 20, 2014 Torres is out for the season after undergoing surgery for an infection in his previously surgically repaired right knee. Torres initially got hurt last preseason and underwent surgery for a torn ACL. He returned in late February and played five games before sitting out the rest of the regular season. Torres played hurt through a seven-game, first-round loss to Los Angeles in the playoffs.

Torres was assessed a minor penalty for charging for the second-period hit Tuesday night in the Kings' 2-0 victory in Game 1. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Torres is considered a repeat offender. While playing for Phoenix last season, Torres received a 21-game suspension - initially 25 games - for a high hit on Chicago star Marian Hossa in the first round of the playoffs. Torres was suspended for two games in January 2012 for charging Minnesota defenseman Nate Prosser and for four games in April 2011 for a hit to the head of Edmonton's Jordan Eberle while playing for Vancouver.
May 4, 2013 Torres scored at 5:31 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 2 of their playoff series Friday night. The Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, which shifts to San Jose for games Sunday and Tuesday. It was the ninth career postseason goal for Torres, who was kicked out of last year's playoffs after a vicious hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa.
