May 1, 2016 Dupuis, Florida's Jaromir Jagr and the New York Rangers' Mats Zuccarello are the finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The winner will be announced June 22 at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas. Dupuis rejoined the Penguins after nearly a year of rehabilitation, training, medical testing and monitoring in caring for multiple injuries and blood clot concerns. He appeared in 18 games before a pair of medical scares convinced him to retire.
Dec. 8, 2015 Dupuis has been forced to retire due continuing problems with blood clots. Dupuis has played in 18 games this season but had to be removed from those games several times. His last game was Dec. 1, when he also had to be taken out to undergo testing.

Dupuis declined to get specific about what the problem was, saying he simply decided to play it safe as a precaution. Dupuis underwent a series of tests on Monday and will be monitored on Tuesday but barring a setback he is expected to play on Wednesday when the Penguins host Montreal.

The 36-year-old Dupuis has been limited to 55 games the past two seasons because of a torn ACL and separate bouts with blood clots. He missed the first month of this season with a lower-body injury unrelated to the blood clots. Dupuis was working his way back from an ACL tear when he scored six goals in 16 games in 2014-15 before he was forced to sit out the final five months of the season because of blood clots that threatened his career. He came back to score a goal in four preseason games this season before his lower-body injury.

Bylsma said Friday after the team's game-day skate that Dupuis will have surgery "in a couple of weeks" to repair his anterior cruciate ligament. Bylsma says he has no timetable for Dupuis' return and it's "likely that it might" end his season. Dupuis hurt his right knee in a loss at Ottawa on Monday when Senators defenseman Marc Methot hit Sidney Crosby, sending him into Dupuis. He has seven goals and 13 assists in 39 games.
